On Thursday, June 26, 2025, Disappeared in America, a National Day of Action, will include:
While Americans believe in the rule of law in the United States, the courts are also saying that due process is required. When the Trump administration ignores the courts and disappear lawful residents, there is no limit to what can come next. President Trump has said he wants to abduct and deport U.S. citizens. If this isn’t stopped now, no one is safe. The Trump administration's policies have fueled fear and anxiety among families, regardless of status. This leads to unnecessary stress, including, including physical health and behavioral issues, psychosomatic symptoms, and mental health problems like depression and anxiety. Pediatricians also warn of long-term consequences from toxic stress, while many families avoid seeking services out of fear. Young children and teens, especially those with immigrant parents, experience heightened anxiety and emotional distress. Fear of family separation affects attendance and development. Trump’s policies have also increased worker stress, further impacting mental health. A primary objective of this campaign is to call on local sheriffs and police to refuse to cooperate with ICE directives - for example, renting jail beds to ICE, participating in immigration raids, or transferring individuals to ICE detention centers (concentration camps). Sheriffs, state and highway patrol, and other local law enforcement have broad discretion in how much they cooperate with ICE, and exercising that discretion can help protect our communities. Having local law enforcement, and even the U.S. military participate with federal immigration puts an unnecessary burden on resources, but also erodes trust within our communities. It's time for law enforcement and the U.S. military to stand up to justice, human rights, and community integrity. A core principle behind all Disappeared in America events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. How Can You Help?
