The National Collective on Violence Prevention believes that unity and proactive action are essential to building healthier, safer, and more resilient communities. Our collective efforts unite diverse leaders, organizations, and communities to develop strategic solutions that prevent violence, reduce trauma, and promote well-being for all. Through collaboration, policy advocacy, and community engagement, we are dedicated to creating lasting change and ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.​

​Vision
A violence-free society where all individuals and communities—especially those historically marginalized or at-risk, including People of Color, Native American, Tribal, indigenous, and other vulnerable groups—are safe, supported, and empowered through systemic, collaborative, and sustainable prevention efforts. Central to this vision is the creation of a coordinated, national network that amplifies community voices, fosters hope, and strengthens connections among diverse stakeholders to drive collective action for violence prevention.

Mission
To provide strategic leadership, foster collaboration, and mobilize inclusive, equity-driven approaches and resources across sectors to prevent violence in all its forms. We aim to develop and sustain a connected platform that harnesses community voices across sectors and regions, promoting shared learning, mutual support, and collaborative action, to realize a holistic, inclusive, and systemic approach to violence prevention.

Objectives

1. Guidance & Oversight: Provide strategic direction and oversight to align NCVP initiatives with best practices, community needs, and principles of racial and social justice, emphasizing the importance of a coordinated, community-voice-driven network.
2. Collaboration & Engagement: Facilitate effective partnerships among diverse stakeholders—including community organizations, leaders, survivors, and policymakers—across sectors and regions. Our goal is to build a connected, collaborative platform that amplifies community voices, fosters hope, and encourages collective action.
3. Resource Development: Support efforts to secure funding, in-kind contributions, and partnerships necessary for sustaining and expanding a national, inclusive network that empowers communities and promotes resilience.
4. Research, Policy & Strategic Planning: Develop and promote inclusive, evidence-based, and research-informed policies and strategic plans that reflect community voices and address all areas of violence. Emphasizing the importance of fostering meaningful connections to drive systemic change.
5. Support & Facilitation: Assist workgroups and leadership in developing culturally competent guidelines, infrastructure, and processes that promote inclusive participation and community-driven initiatives.
6. Monitoring & Evaluation: Track progress toward goals with disaggregated data to assess impact on marginalized and underserved communities and evaluate how well the network supports community voice amplification, hope, and collaboration.
7. Public Awareness & Visibility: Promote awareness of NCVP’s work and foster community engagement through culturally sensitive communication, storytelling, and outreach—strengthening connections across sectors and communities.
8. Leadership & Succession: Ensure ongoing, inclusive leadership through regular evaluation, onboarding, and succession planning that values the diversity and lived experiences of marginalized populations, reinforcing the strength of a connected, community-driven movement.

NCVP Work Groups

Workgroup 1
Addressing the Normalization of the Root Causes of Violence

• ​​Purpose: To develop and implement a strategic plan that challenges the normalization of violence by addressing systemic, cultural, and social factors—focusing on marginalized, Indigenous, and at-risk populations.
• ​Primary Objective: Create a culturally responsive plan to shift community norms, raise awareness of root causes, and promote healthy, non-violent attitudes and behaviors.​

​Scope of Work:

1. Conduct assessments to identify systemic contributors to violence.
2. Develop culturally relevant education and messaging.
3. Engage community leaders, youth, and marginalized groups in leadership.
4. Facilitate dialogues and workshops to promote attitude change.
5. Collaborate with stakeholders to advocate for policy change.
6. Monitor and evaluate the impact on community norms and attitudes.

Definitional Clarity

• Purpose: To foster shared definitions and understanding of key concepts related to violence, its causes, and impacts—promoting accountability, healing, and societal change.
• Primary Objective: Enhance clarity and understanding to support accountability, individual healing, and societal transformation

Scope of Work:

1. Establish and disseminate shared definitions of violence and its various domains.
2. Develop educational resources that clarify complex concepts related to violence and systemic causes.
3. Promote transparency and understanding among stakeholders, communities, and policymakers.
4. Support community healing initiatives by fostering shared language and understanding.
5. Address misconceptions, stigma, and misinformation surrounding violence and accountability.
6. Facilitate dialogue and consensus-building on key terms and concepts.

Workgroup 3
Survivor Prioritization

• Purpose: To establish and implement best practices that ensure survivor inclusion in all initiatives, policies, and programs—done ethically, respectfully, and without exploitation—promoting equitable access and support for all survivors.
• Primary Objective: Develop and apply standards for survivor inclusion, ensuring representation, access, and support for all survivors.

Scope of Work:                 

• Develop and disseminate standards for survivor inclusion that prevent exploitation and ensure safety.
• Establish guidelines for meaningful survivor participation in decision-making processes.
• Promote access to resources, services, and support tailored to diverse survivor needs.
• Engage survivors from marginalized, indigenous, and at-risk communities in leadership roles.
• Monitor and evaluate the implementation of survivor-centered practices.
• Advocate for policies that uphold survivor rights and dignity.

Evidence and Research-Informed Practices, Policies, and Programs

• Purpose: To ensure research-based solutions, best practices, policies, and programs are accessible, actionable, and effectively integrated into nationwide violence prevention efforts, fostering a network that promotes evidence-informed approaches.
• Primary Objective: Support evidence-informed decision-making, practice, and policy development through a national network that makes research-based solutions accessible and practical.

Scope of Work:              

• Identify and synthesize current research, evidence-based practices, and promising approaches in violence prevention.
• Develop tools and resources that translate research findings into practical applications for diverse stakeholders.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing and dissemination of evidence-informed programs and policies.
• Support capacity-building initiatives to promote the adoption of research-backed solutions.
• Monitor emerging research and update resources regularly.
• Collaborate with policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to align efforts and promote evidence-based decision-making.
