Contact your members of Congress to urge them to oppose the Health and Human Services Reduction in Force (RIF)! On April 1, the Department of Health and Human Services announced extensive layoffs across the entire department, impacting more than 200 staff members at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC). These budget cuts severely undermine NCIPC’s capacity to support essential injury and violence prevention programs in communities nationwide.
The initiatives backed by NCIPC include vital efforts to reduce veteran suicides, prevent overdose deaths in rural areas, ensure the safe use of car seats for young children, provide athletes and coaches with tools to recognize concussions, and help prevent falls among older adults. Over 80% of NCIPC’s $761 million budget is allocated directly to states and local communities for evidence-based, locally driven injury prevention initiatives. This reduction in funding will undoubtedly have a disastrous impact on these communities. We must unite and make our voices heard! Please reach out to your members of Congress and urge them to oppose these cuts while advocating for NCIPC and injury and violence prevention programs in your state. Take Action!
