Urgent Alert: The End of American Global Leadership and Its Threats to Our Future

1/21/2026

Abstract
This urgent alert highlights the decline of American global leadership due to recent withdrawals from key international organizations and treaties. Such actions undermine the United States' influence on critical issues like security, climate change, and human rights, leaving the nation vulnerable to international instability and economic threats. The shift in global power dynamics, driven by rising adversaries and diminishing U.S. engagement, poses severe risks to national security and future prosperity. Immediate action is imperative—citizens must advocate for responsible policies, rebuild alliances, and restore America's leadership role to safeguard our security, economic stability, and values in an increasingly fractured world.

Urgent Alert: The End of American Global Leadership and Its Threats to Our Future
As the world swiftly shifts away from American leadership, recent developments signal a critical moment for the United States. With the decline of U.S.-dominated global influence, our nation faces unprecedented threats to its security, economy, and future prosperity. This article explores the alarming reality of America’s retreat from international engagement, the dangerous consequences of diminished global standing, and the urgent actions needed to protect our interests and restore leadership on the world stage. The time to act is now—our future depends on it.
Recent statements by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the World Economic Forum in Davos have sounded a clarion call that should alarm every American: the era of U.S.-led global dominance is over. Carney declared that the "old order is not coming back," signaling a seismic shift in the international system that poses grave dangers to our nation’s security, economy, and global influence (Yousif, 2026).
This new reality is driven by a disturbing trend — major powers are no longer respecting the rules-based international order. Instead, they are weaponizing economic interdependence, using tariffs, financial systems, and supply chains as tools of coercion and control. As a result, American economic strength and leadership are being undermined, leaving us vulnerable in ways we have never experienced before.
The consequences of this shift are dire. Without the US at the helm, our allies and adversaries alike are recalibrating their strategies, and the global landscape is becoming more fragmented and unpredictable. Our economic stability, national security, and future prosperity are at increasing risk, all because of the complacency and inaction of President Trump and most of the U.S. Congress.

Eroding Global Leadership and Putting United States Citizens and Country at Risk
According to a recent White House fact sheet, the decision to withdraw from numerous international organizations and treaties represents a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy
(The White House, 2026). Historically, active U.S. participation in global institutions has been a cornerstone of American leadership, allowing the country to influence international norms, promote security, and protect its national interests. However, recent actions to disengage—from organizations like the World Health Organization, the Paris Climate Agreement, the UN Human Rights Council, and others—have effectively diminished the United States' role on the world stage. This retreat from international engagement has led to a loss of influence, weakened alliances, and reduced capacity to shape global policies that impact national security, economic prosperity, and public health. Consequently, this approach risks isolating the U.S., undermining its leadership, and exposing citizens to increased global instability and threats.

With the U.S. withdrawing from numerous international organizations and treaties, the United States has abdicated its role as a global leader. This retreat diminishes America’s influence on critical issues like climate change, human rights, and global security, leaving a leadership vacuum. Without active participation and engagement, the U.S. risks losing strategic alliances, economic stability, and soft power—weakening its ability to shape international policies that protect its citizens. This decline in global presence not only devalues the nation’s standing but also exposes Americans to greater threats, from international instability to global health crises, ultimately jeopardizing the safety, prosperity, and security of all Americans.

Picture
By allowing this administration to ignore the warning signs and fail to adapt, the United States risks losing its influence, its economic independence, and its ability to shape global events - which since 2025 is has been continuing to decline at a rapid rate. Our adversaries are forging new alliances, exploiting vulnerabilities in supply chains, and challenging our leadership—threatening the very foundation of our security and future.

We cannot afford to stand still. The time for complacency has passed. We must demand that the United States Congress takes action to ensure accountability and decisive action from our leaders to protect our interests, rebuild our alliances, and restore America’s rightful place as a global leader. If we continue to ignore these warnings, future generations will inherit a diminished America, weakened and at the mercy of a fractured world.

The choice is ours: we can stand by and watch as the world shifts away from American leadership and have the world against the United States, or we can rally to defend our values, our security, and our future. The stakes have never been higher.
Conclusion
The decline of American global leadership is a threat that cannot be ignored. As international powers reshape the world order, the United States must recognize the urgent need to reaffirm its influence, rebuild alliances, and champion democratic values, human rights, and the principles of humanity. Much of this decline has been accelerated by actions taken during the Trump administration, and without decisive intervention and leadership from the U.S. Congress, this downward trajectory will continue, leaving our nation more vulnerable than ever.

For United States citizens, the time to act is now — to help defend our values, our security, and our future for the next 250+ years! By standing together, advocating for responsible policies, engaging with our communities, and holding our leaders accountable, we can restore American leadership and ensure that our influence supports a better world—one that prioritizes human rights, environmental sustainability, public health, and global cooperation. The future of our nation and the well-being of humanity depend on the choices we make today.

The Growing Threat of ICE: Endangering Public Safety, Human Rights, and Critical Services

1/20/2026

Abstract:
The expansion of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the Trump administration's 2025 policies has led to unprecedented increases in enforcement budgets, staffing, and aggressive tactics, often at the expense of vital public programs. This shift has diverted funds away from essential federal departments responsible for healthcare, safety, and environmental quality, jeopardizing Americans' well-being. This article explores the implications of these policies, highlights the lack of accountability and oversight within ICE, and presents peaceful avenues for public engagement—including protests and congressional advocacy—to promote responsible governance and protect community safety.

The Growing Threat of ICE: Endangering Public Safety, Human Rights, and Critical Services
Since the Trump administration’s 2025 policies, the power and influence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have expanded dramatically, posing severe threats to the physical and emotional safety, human rights, and civil liberties of millions of Americans. Under the pretense of immigration enforcement, ICE has grown into one of the largest and most militarized law enforcement agencies in the country, employing aggressive tactics that endanger not only immigrants but also U.S. citizens and entire communities. This unchecked surge in authority comes at the expense of vital public services, with critical programs such as healthcare, education, and environmental protections being defunded and abandoned. The result is a climate of fear, violence, and systemic abuse—where civil rights are under assault and democratic freedoms are at grave risk. It is imperative that the public recognize these dangers and take urgent action to uphold human rights, community safety, and accountability.
Picture
The Growing Power of ICE and Its Impact on Public Well-being
The dramatic expansion of ICE under the Trump administration’s 2025 policies poses a profound and multifaceted threat to public safety, civil liberties, and community well-being. With a budget exceeding $30 billion—double the usual funding—and over 22,000 officers, ICE has become one of the largest and most militarized law enforcement agencies in the country. This unprecedented growth fuels aggressive enforcement tactics that often cross the line into abuse and intimidation, putting both immigrants and innocent U.S. citizens at risk. Such militarization and heavy-handed approaches foster an environment of fear and mistrust, undermine civil rights, and threaten to escalate violence, systemic abuse, and unchecked power—creating a dangerous climate where community safety and individual freedoms are jeopardized.

Picture
Diversion of Public Funds and Erosion of Essential Services
Historically, federal agencies responsible for healthcare, education, disability services, behavioral health, water and air quality, food safety, housing, infrastructure, public safety, research, women’s rights, and more—once exemplars of justice, equality, and leadership—have been funded through targeted government allocations. These programs are funded by your tax dollars and are vital for maintaining a healthy, safe, and equitable society. However, due to the policies of the Trump administration and most of Congress, these critical services have been severely defunded and their funds redirected toward ICE’s expanding enforcement and detention operations. This reallocation has led to increased risks to community safety, human rights abuses, trauma, and violations of basic human dignity. Instead of investing in the well-being of all Americans, these funds are now fueling a system that perpetuates abuse and systemic injustice. As a result, the ideals of justice, equality, and leadership that once defined America are being deeply tarnished—an erosion of values unprecedented in our history—all at the expense of public health, safety, and human rights. Remember, this is paid for by your tax dollars, and ordered by the Trump administration and most of Congress!

Picture
Lack of Oversight, Accountability, and Unchecked Power
ICE’s rapid growth has occurred with little-to-no training, regulation, oversight, or accountability. Reports have documented abusive tactics—including shootings and killings without investigation or justification, assaults, physical harm, fatalities, and injuries—often involving operating unmarked vehicles to intimidate or attack civilians, using tear gas, smashing car windows, and detaining non-criminal individuals without proper warrants or judicial oversight. These systemic issues echo models of abusive behavior, such as the Power and Control Wheel, undermining public trust and threatening civil liberties, which has led to protests and widespread dissent (Galofaro, 2025).
Picture
Implications for Community Safety and Rights
Official narratives claim ICE targets only criminal elements, however, this is far form the truth, as reports indicate that non-criminal individuals and U.S. citizens are also unlawfully detained, assaulted, injured, and even killed. The militarization of law enforcement, combined with unregulated budgets, raises serious concerns about the erosion of civil rights and the safety of all community members, including children, elders, and families (Foy et al., 2025; Galofaro, 2025).
Picture
Public Alert: Recognizing the Tactics of Authoritarian Control in Modern Law Enforcement
Historically, regimes like Nazi Germany used militarization, propaganda, suppression of dissent, and violence to consolidate power. Paramilitary forces, censorship, and targeted persecution were common tactics. Today, similar concerns arise with the increasing militarization of law enforcement agencies. Despite claims that ICE only targets criminals, reports reveal a troubling pattern of unlawful detention and violence against non-criminal individuals and U.S. citizens. These tactics mirror authoritarian methods of control, risking the erosion of democratic freedoms and civil liberties.
Picture
Unchecked and Unaccountable: The Alarming Reality of Immigration Detention - Sex Abuse, Assault, Emotional Trauma, Starvation - Under the Trump Administration
Since the Trump administration’s expansion of immigration detention in 2025, conditions at facilities like the Fort Bliss military base have revealed a disturbing humanitarian crisis. Detainees, including vulnerable teenagers, are subjected to brutal physical abuse, neglect, and unsafe living conditions—often with little to no medical care or legal rights. Reports detail violent assaults, sexual abuse, food shortages, unsanitary environments, and deliberate opacity designed to silence and intimidate. The use of military bases as detention sites marks a reckless shift toward militarization, with grave risks to human rights, safety, and dignity - violating immigrant and citizen rights and human basic needs. This alarming situation exposes the dangerous trajectory of unchecked detention policies that threaten to spread nationwide unless urgent intervention occurs. The crisis at Fort Bliss is not an isolated incident—it is a warning sign of the broader, systemic human rights violations and institutional failures that could escalate if this reckless approach continues (Ansari, 2025; Gassama, 2025).
Conslusion
The rapid growth and militarization of ICE under the Trump administration’s 2025 and 2026 policies pose significant threats to the nation’s stability and core values. This aggressive expansion erodes civil liberties, as tactics involving abuse, unlawful detention, and the use of force undermine fundamental rights and due process protections. Such heavy-handed enforcement increases the risk of physical harm and fatalities, fostering a climate of fear and mistrust within communities. Additionally, this approach damages community safety by fracturing trust in law enforcement, which can lead to decreased cooperation and heightened violence. The diversion of billions of public dollars away from essential services like healthcare, education, and infrastructure further weakens societal resilience, impacting public health and safety. On an international level, widespread human rights violations threaten the United States’ reputation and diplomatic standing. Meanwhile, the unchecked power of such a large, militarized agency raises the risk of systemic abuse and misconduct. Collectively, these issues threaten to destabilize social cohesion, undermine democratic principles, and expose the country to internal discord, long-term instability, and diminished moral authority on the global stage.
Diverting funds from essential public programs to support an over-militarized ICE undermines community well-being and civil liberties. Citizens must remain vigilant, advocate peacefully, and hold elected officials accountable to ensure government priorities serve all Americans’ safety, health, and rights.
What Can You Do? Urgent Actions You Can Take!
Peaceful protests are vital for expressing public concern and pressuring policymakers to reconsider funding priorities, and also self-care. Citizens are encouraged to:
  • Participate in peaceful demonstrations to raise awareness about ICE’s policies and the importance of funding public services.
  • Contact congressional representatives to advocate for responsible budgeting that prioritizes healthcare, safety, and environmental programs over militarized enforcement.

The Growing Exodus of GOP Lawmakers: A Sign of a President in Crisis

1/6/2026

Picture
As more than fifty Republican lawmakers decide to leave Congress, citing dysfunction and an unmanageable schedule, a troubling reality emerges: the presidency of Donald Trump is increasingly endangering the very fabric of the United States (Kochi & Mueller, 2026). Their departure is not just about political fatigue; it is a stark reflection of a government in disarray, undermined by a leader whose actions and policies are pushing the nation toward instability.
Trump’s influence has left the Republican Party fractured, with many lawmakers recognizing that his approach to governance—marked by chaos, division, and disregard for institutional norms—threatens the core principles of American democracy. The widespread exodus signals a loss of faith in his leadership and a recognition that his presidency is fostering an environment of unchecked power, corruption, and erosion of accountability.

More critically, the dysfunction within Congress—exacerbated by Trump’s relentless pursuit of personal and political gain—paralyzes the government at a time when decisive action is needed. From failing to address urgent issues like economic stability, national security, and public health, to undermining democratic norms through attacks on institutions and the rule of law, Trump’s presidency is actively weakening the United States’ ability to govern effectively.

This decline in leadership and support poses a direct threat to national security and the preservation of American values. Without a functioning Congress and a united political front, the country becomes more vulnerable to internal chaos and external threats. The departure of seasoned lawmakers signals that the nation’s institutions are strained to their breaking point—raising the urgent question: how long can the United States sustain itself as a stable democracy if its leadership continues to fracture and falter under the weight of one man’s ambitions and dysfunction. SAVE OUR COUNTRY 2026!

What Can You Do?

In these grave, dangerous, challenging times, citizens play a vital role in safeguarding American democracy. Staying informed is the first step—understanding the issues, recognizing the signs of governmental decline, and holding leaders accountable. Voting remains a powerful tool; participating in elections, supporting candidates who prioritize integrity and constitutional principles, and engaging in civic activism can help steer the country back toward stability.

Additionally, citizens should advocate for transparency and demand accountability from their elected officials. Supporting organizations that promote democratic norms, participating in community discussions, and encouraging dialogue about the importance of strong institutions are crucial. Holding leaders responsible for their actions--Contacting Congress Now! Also, participate in peaceful protests, petitions, or public discourse—strengthens the social fabric that upholds our democracy.

Ultimately, defending democracy requires collective effort. By staying engaged, informed, and proactive, Americans can help ensure that the nation’s institutions are resilient enough to withstand current threats and build a future rooted in justice, integrity, and shared values.

1/5/2026

This report synthesizes the key developments from a recent United Nations Security Council emergency meeting convened to address the unprecedented military actions by the United States against Venezuela on January 3, 2026. The proceedings reveal a deep international divide over legality, sovereignty, and the future stability of global peace (see video below).

The recent U.S. military intervention in Venezuela has ignited a significant international debate over legality, morality, and the future of global stability. This article examines the unfolding crisis, beginning with the context of the emergency UN Security Council meeting convened to address these provocative actions. It explores the widespread legal and normative condemnations from nations around the world, highlighting concerns over violations of sovereignty and international law. A critical review of the long history of U.S. interventions provides further insight into the motives behind this escalation, while regional and global reactions reveal a deep divide in perceptions and responses. The discussion underscores broader themes such as the importance of respecting international norms, the risks posed by unilateral military actions, and the moral responsibilities of the U.S. military—especially when faced with unlawful orders. Additionally, the critique of the U.S. representative’s statements at the Security Council exposes the contradictions between U.S. rhetoric and the principles of international law. Reflecting on the role of the Trump administration and congressional inaction, the article considers how these policies have undermined U.S. credibility and global stability. Ultimately, it emphasizes the vital role of citizens worldwide in advocating for peaceful, lawful solutions and holding leaders accountable to ensure a more just and stable international order..

Picture

Introduction and Context

Recent unilateral military actions by the United States, bypassing Congress and undermining international law, raise urgent questions about the future of democracy and accountability in the U.S. These developments threaten to erode the constitutional checks and balances that safeguard freedoms and human rights, pushing the nation closer to an authoritarian model that prioritizes power over law and justice. As citizens, it is crucial to recognize these dangers and understand that the erosion of democratic principles affects not only U.S. citizens but also the stability of the entire world. In the face of these threats, active civic engagement, holding leaders accountable, and demanding adherence to lawful and democratic processes are more vital than ever. Only by standing together and taking informed action can we protect the values of democracy, uphold international law, and ensure a just future for all.
The meeting opened with a statement from the UN Secretary General’s representative, Rosemary De Carlo, who condemned the US military intervention as a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter. She detailed that US forces carried out large-scale strikes across Caracas and other regions, detaining Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores. Her remarks raised alarm about regional stability and underscored the dangerous precedent set by unilateral military actions outside the authorization of the Security Council.

Picture

Legal and Normative Condemnation

Representatives from numerous countries, including Russia, China, Cuba, and several Latin American nations, strongly condemned the US actions. They emphasized that the intervention breached core principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the prohibition on the use of force as outlined in the UN Charter. Many underscored that the US’s military strikes lacked Security Council authorization and directly contravened international law, which mandates peaceful dispute resolution and respect for state sovereignty.

Picture

Historical and Political Critique of US Policies

Delegates from Russia, China, and Cuba criticized the US for a long history of regime change efforts, covert operations, sanctions, and military interventions in countries such as Iraq, Libya, Syria, Honduras, Ukraine, and Venezuela itself. They accused the US of pursuing imperialist objectives—particularly over Venezuela’s natural resources—and supporting criminal and terrorist entities within Venezuela’s borders, fueling instability and human suffering.

Regional and International Reactions

Latin American and Caribbean nations, including Colombia and Panama, condemned the US military strikes as violations of sovereignty that threaten regional peace. They called for peaceful, diplomatic solutions and emphasized adherence to international law and respect for Venezuelan sovereignty. These countries warned that unilateral military actions exacerbate instability, displace populations, and risk broader conflicts.
Picture
Calls for De-escalation and Respect for International Law
Most speakers urged the US to cease threats and military actions immediately, withdraw forces, and prioritize diplomatic and peaceful dispute resolution. The UN Secretary General was encouraged to appoint a special envoy to facilitate dialogue between all parties. The importance of upholding the principles of the UN Charter—peaceful negotiation, sovereignty, and non-aggression—was underscored as essential for global peace and stability.

Venezuelan Government’s Response
The Venezuelan representative reaffirmed that the country remains under constitutional control, with institutions functioning normally. Venezuela condemned the US actions as illegitimate, reaffirmed its sovereignty, and called for the immediate release of Maduro and Flores. The Venezuelan government emphasized its commitment to peace, law, and dialogue, firmly rejecting external interference or occupation attempts.

Broader International Positions
Countries such as Argentina, France, the UK, South Africa, and others expressed concern over the escalation. They supported dialogue and peaceful resolution, criticizing the US for undermining international law and setting dangerous precedents. Several nations reiterated the importance of respecting the sovereignty of all states and the need for multilateralism.

Broader Themes and Summary

The Security Council’s debate revealed a stark divide: many nations condemned the US intervention as illegal and a threat to regional stability, advocating for diplomacy and adherence to international law. Conversely, the US justified its actions as lawful law enforcement against drug traffickers and terrorist organizations, claiming Maduro is a criminal and illegitimate leader.

The Risks of US Actions and the Role of International Law

Implications for US Citizens and Global Security:
The escalation heightens the risk of regional conflict, miscalculation, and proxy wars, which could threaten both US citizens and global stability. Tensions may foster terrorism, cyber threats, and humanitarian crises, including refugee flows that destabilize neighboring nations and impact worldwide security. The breakdown of international norms increases the likelihood of broader conflicts, possibly even involving nuclear-armed states, with catastrophic consequences.
Picture
International Law’s Mitigating Role:
The UN Charter’s core principles—prohibiting the threat or use of force against sovereign states, respecting territorial integrity, and promoting peaceful dispute resolution—are designed to prevent such escalation. These norms establish mechanisms for diplomacy, dialogue, and arbitration, helping to resolve conflicts without violence. Upholding international law maintains stability, reduces the risk of conflict, and protects civilians worldwide.

Obligations of the U.S. Military in the Face of Unlawful Orders

Erosion of Credibility: The Moral and Legal Duty of the Military
The recent unilateral military actions by the U.S. government have raised profound concerns about the credibility and moral integrity of the armed forces. My hope, faith, trust, and sense of honor in the U.S. Military have been shattered by its actions that violate international law and undermine the very values it is supposed to uphold. When the military follows orders that violate the Constitution or international law, it risks betraying its fundamental oath to support and defend the Constitution. Such actions can undermine the trust placed in the military as an institution committed to legality, justice, and human rights. If service members are seen to blindly obey unlawful commands, it diminishes the moral standing of the armed forces and erodes public confidence in their integrity and purpose. Upholding the rule of law and the Constitution must remain central to the military’s identity—failure to do so risks not only legal consequences but also long-term damage to its credibility and moral authority.
The Moral and Legal Duty of the Military
A significant moral and legal concern regarding the conduct of the U.S. military when it follows an order from a president that violates the Constitution or international law. This issue touches on the core principles of the military's oath and the fundamental duties of service members.
The Military’s Duty to the Constitution
The oath sworn by U.S. military personnel explicitly states that they will "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." This oath establishes the Constitution as the highest authority, surpassing the orders of any individual, including the President.

Unlawful Orders and the Obligation to Refuse
Military members are legally bound to obey lawful orders. However, if an order from an authority—such as the President—is unconstitutional, it is considered unlawful. Historically and legally, service members have a duty to refuse to carry out orders that violate constitutional protections, human rights, or international law. For example, ordering the military to use force against U.S. citizens without due process or in violation of constitutional rights would fall into this category.

Ethical and Legal Implications
Following an unconstitutional order can lead to significant ethical dilemmas and legal consequences for individual service members. The military’s core values emphasize integrity and the obligation to uphold the law, meaning that obedience does not extend to illegal or unconstitutional commands.

Potential for a Constitutional Crisis
If a president issues an order that violates the Constitution—such as using military force domestically against U.S. citizens without proper legal authority—it could trigger a constitutional crisis. Such a scenario might involve:
  • Legal Challenges: Military personnel could refuse to obey, citing their oath and legal obligations.
  • Political Repercussions: Congress and the judiciary might intervene, possibly leading to impeachment proceedings or judicial rulings declaring the order invalid.
  • Internal Conflict: Tensions within the military and government could escalate, as service members and civilian leaders navigate the conflict between lawful authority and constitutional duty.

Betraying Its Principles: The U.S. Military - A Shame in 2026
Unlawful orders—especially those that violate the core principles of democracy and human rights—is a betrayal of the military’s foundational values. While the military is often seen as disciplined and obedient, there is also a strong tradition and expectation that service members uphold the Constitution above all else.

The military's moral and legal obligation is to support and defend the Constitution, not any unlawful order from a president. If actions are taken that violate constitutional protections or international law, it would reflect poorly on the military’s integrity to comply blindly. Upholding the rule of law is essential to maintaining the legitimacy, honor, and moral standing of the armed forces.

Critique of the US Representation at the UN Security Council

During the Security Council session, the United States representative’s speech was marked by claims that lacked supporting facts and evidence. Despite asserting that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is a criminal and terrorist, the US failed to substantiate these allegations with clear, credible proof. More importantly, the U.S. is in no position to unilaterally enforce or interpret international law to justify such actions against another sovereign state. The U.S. claims to act in the interest of global security are fundamentally at odds with the principles of international law, which emphasize sovereignty and peaceful dispute resolution.
Picture
Furthermore, the Trump administration’s justification for kidnapping and attacking Venezuela—by labeling it a haven for terrorists and asserting that such actions are necessary to protect global and regional security—ignores the profound human rights violations occurring within the United States itself. The administration and the GOP-controlled Congress have, in many instances, allowed policies and actions that tear away at the human rights of U.S. citizens, including the detention of individuals without due process, aggressive border policies, and the suppression of dissent.

This disconnect highlights a troubling double standard: while the U.S. positions itself as a defender of global stability, it simultaneously undermines international norms and its own moral credibility by engaging in actions that violate both domestic and international laws. Such behavior risks eroding trust in the U.S. on the world stage and damages the moral authority that is essential for effective leadership in global peace and security.

The Impact of the Trump Administration and Congressional Inaction

The unilateral military intervention by the Trump administration, and the absence of significant oversight or action from the GOP-controlled Congress at the time, significantly weakened the trust, dignity, and safety of the United States.
Picture
Gravely and most dangerously for a democratic free and safe society, one of the key reasons why unilateral military actions occur without proper congressional approval is the concentration of executive power in the presidency, especially in times of crisis or perceived national security threats. Over the years, many presidents have asserted broad authority under the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) and other legal justifications, often bypassing Congress’s constitutional role to declare war or authorize military interventions. During the Trump administration, this tendency was magnified, with the executive branch sometimes acting unilaterally in foreign conflicts, despite constitutional and international legal principles that emphasize congressional oversight and approval.

Moreover, many members of Congress have been either reluctant, politically divided, or insufficiently assertive in challenging these actions. Some lawmakers prioritize partisan loyalty or fear of being labeled weak on national security, leading to a lack of accountability. Others may lack the awareness or political will to challenge executive overreach, allowing presidents to act outside the bounds of law and international norms.

This abdication of oversight not only undermines the constitutional balance of power but also weakens the rule of law internationally, enabling actions that violate sovereignty and international agreements. The result is a dangerous drift toward unchecked executive military power, which can escalate conflicts, destabilize regions, and threaten global security.
These actions:
  • Erode International Trust: Bypass of the UN Security Council damaged the US’s reputation as a responsible global leader committed to law and order.
  • Weakening of Moral Authority: Viewed by many countries as an act of aggression and imperialism, diminishing US moral standing and diplomatic influence.
  • Increased Global Instability: Heightened regional tensions and conflict risks, undermining the collective security system designed to prevent wars.
  • Undermining the Security Council: Unilateral actions undermine the authority of the UN’s primary peacekeeping body, risking the erosion of multilateralism.
  • Threats to Citizens’ Safety: Destabilization from such interventions can lead to violence, terrorism, and humanitarian crises that also threaten US citizens directly.

Conclusion

The recent US military actions in Venezuela and the lack of accountability within the US political system threaten the core principles of the UN, weaken the Security Council’s authority, and jeopardize global peace. The US cannot take international law into their own hands for their own benefit, and puts people and countries at risk. International law exists to prevent such escalation by fostering dialogue, respecting sovereignty, and providing peaceful dispute mechanisms. Citizens worldwide, including Americans, can contribute to peace by advocating for diplomatic solutions, staying informed, and holding leaders accountable. Only through collective effort and adherence to international norms can we build a safer, more just global order—one rooted in respect for human rights, sovereignty, and the rule of law.

Call to Action for U.S. Citizens

As citizens, it’s crucial to recognize the importance of holding Congress accountable for safeguarding the constitutional process and ensuring that military actions are transparent, lawful, and democratically authorized. By advocating for stronger legislative oversight, supporting leaders committed to respecting the separation of powers, and demanding that your representatives oppose unauthorized military interventions, you can help restore the balance of authority. Staying informed, engaging in civic activism, and making your voice heard through petitions, voting, and public discourse are vital steps in ensuring that military power is exercised responsibly and in accordance with both national and international law.

You can make a difference by:
  • Engaging with your elected representatives: Contact your Congress members to demand transparency, oversight, and adherence to constitutional processes regarding military actions.
  • Participating in civic activism: Join or support organizations that advocate for peace, human rights, and legal accountability.
  • Raising awareness: Use social media, community forums, and public discussions to inform others about the importance of lawful and democratic governance.
  • Voting and supporting candidates: Elect leaders who prioritize constitutional rights, international law, and peaceful diplomacy.
  • Educating yourself and others: Stay informed about international law, civic rights, and the role of government in safeguarding democracy.

Your voice and actions are powerful tools to resist unchecked authority and to help rebuild a society that respects the rule of law, human rights, and democratic principles. Together, we can ensure that our nation remains committed to justice and peace, both at home and abroad.

A Message of Hope and Unity: Reflections from King Charles on Christmas, and Our Call to Come Together for Our Future in the United States

12/25/2025

The CIRCLE wishes you a joyful holiday and a Merry Christmas, with hope and action for our nation's future.

As King Charles reflects on the profound themes of hope, unity, and compassion during his Christmas address, he reminds us of the enduring power of journeying, both inward and outward, to find strength and renewal. His words highlight that, even in times of uncertainty and division, the values of reconciliation, kindness, and shared purpose remain our guiding light.

Throughout the world, leaders who embody empathy and respect demonstrate that responsible governance prioritizes the safety, health, and well-being of their citizens, while also safeguarding the environment and promoting justice. For example, countries like Norway, Sweden, and Denmark exemplify how social responsibility, universal healthcare, environmental sustainability, and justice contribute to resilient and inclusive societies. Leaders such as Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand and President Joe Biden of the United States emphasized compassion and inclusiveness, working to build trust, promote social cohesion, and ensure that no one is left behind.

In the United States, however, since 2025, the Trump administration has eroded the structure of our nation, undermining hope, policy, and the future. Our country has experienced a significant decline in core principles like democracy, freedom, human rights, and justice. Leadership during this current time as we lead into 2026, undermines our unity and trust, making it more challenging to face shared challenges with optimism and resilience.

Yet, the holiday season offers us a vital reminder: no matter where we are or the difficulties we face, the spirit of hope and togetherness remains vital. Leaders across the world emphasize that our greatest strength lies in our ability to come together with empathy, responsibility, and respect for one another.
Americans have the power to help shape the future through their voices and actions, by voting in upcoming elections, holding leaders accountable, and actively contacting Congress to advocate for policies rooted in justice, hope, and environmental stewardship. Every voice matters, and collective action can restore the principles, governmental structures, and checks-and-balances that bind us as a nation.

This Christmas, let us remember that hope is a powerful force, capable of restoring unity, promoting safety, protecting our environment, and rebuilding a brighter future for all. Together, through civic engagement and a shared commitment to our values, we can create a future worthy of the hope that this season inspires.

What the Big Beautiful Bill Really Does – And What It Means for Communities

12/16/2025

Picture
The "Big Beautiful Bill," signed into law on July 4, 2025, marks a significant shift in federal policy, affecting areas such as nutrition, healthcare, education, immigration, and environmental protection. While presented as efforts to provide tax relief and national investment, the law introduces numerous changes that increase administrative burdens and restrict access to vital programs for low-income and vulnerable populations. As these provisions are implemented gradually, understanding their impacts and engaging in civic advocacy will be essential for communities to navigate and respond to these policy shifts.

On July 4, 2025, Public Law 119-21, Budget Reconciliation Act (also called the One Big Beautiful Bill Act)
–was signed into law. Presented as a middle-class tax relief and national investment, the bill instead reshapes federal priorities across nutrition assistance, healthcare, higher education, immigration,
environmental protection, and tax policy. Its combined effects will unfold gradually, placing new
administrative burdens on low-income households while expanding federal enforcement and
reducing long-term public-health and climate investments.

Nutrition and  SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program): Increased Requirements and Narrower Eligibility
The law expands work and community-engagement requirements for many adults receiving
SNAP and limits states’ ability to waive those requirements based on local labor conditions. It
also removes internet service fees from allowable shelter deductions, which may lower benefits
for households already managing high utility costs. Eligibility is newly restricted to citizens,
permanent residents, certain humanitarian categories, and specific Pacific Islander statuses
–excluding many other legally present immigrants.
Picture
These changes fall hardest on working-poor households with unstable hours, caregivers of older children, mixed-status families, rural communities, and immigrants facing layered eligibility restrictions. While the bill frames these provisions as “accountability measures,” the practical result is fewer households maintaining steady access to food assistance.

Healthcare Access: Administrative Barrier and Coverage Gaps
The bill requires states to implement work or community-engagement criteria for certain adults
on Medicaid, despite evidence that such requirements reduce enrollment rather than increase
employment. It also adds new immigration-related restrictions for the premium tax credit and
tightens documentation requirements for coverage.
Picture
People with limited English proficiency, unstable employment, or caregiving responsibilities are most affected. Instead of stable access to care, beneficiaries face more conditional, compliance-
based systems and greater risk of losing coverage.

Higher Education: New Loan Limits and Reduced Pathways to Relief
Graduate and professional PLUS loans and eliminated, forcing many students to rely on capped
federal loans or private financing. Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) is revised, and
borrower-defense and closed-school discharge protections are delayed.
Picture
These changes disproportionately affect first-generation students, borrowers from low-income backgrounds, and those pursuing public-service careers such as teaching, social work, and public
defense. Long-term, the bill limits upward mobility through education and narrows access to graduate level opportunities.

Immigration: Higher Fees and Expanded Enforcement Infrastructure
The law raises fees across asylum, Temporary Protected Status, work authorization, and
adjustment-of-status processes. It also directs federal resources to additional detention capacity,
border infrastructure, personnel, and law-enforcement training.
Picture
Asylum seekers, mixed-status families, and border communities will experience greater financial and procedural barriers. While the bill does not create deportation quotas, expanded enforcement
infrastructure will influence how aggressively policies are applied on the ground.

Environmental and Climate Programs: Major Funding Cuts
The bill rescinds funding from dozens of environmental and climate initiatives, including air-
quality programs, environmental justice grants, clean-vehicle investments, and NOAA climate
monitoring
.
Picture
Communities already experiencing disproportionate pollution burdens – particularly frontline, Indigenous, and low-income neighborhoods – will face heightened long-term health and climate risks. The shift represents a move away from mitigation and public-health protection toward short-term deregulation.

Tax Provisions: Continued Benefits for Higher-Income Households
The law extends and expands several 2017 tax provisions, including reduced individual tax rates,
increased standard deductions, expanded business-expensing options, and exclusions for tips,
overtime, and car-loan interest.
Picture
While framed as middle-class relief, many benefits provide greater gains for higher-income households and businesses. Families losing public benefits or facing new administrative requirements may experience a net financial loss.

What We Can Do
Although many provisions of the law will phase in over several years, there are meaningful steps
individuals and communities can take now to stay prepared and reduce potential harm.
  • Staying informed through trusted, nonpartisan sources helps households anticipate changes to SNAP, Medicaid, student aid, immigration fees, and environmental programs – and reduces the risk of losing access due to missed deadlines or new documentation requirements.
    • Find your local health department in the Directory of Local Health Departments - NACCHO
  • Sharing accurate information within neighborhoods, workplaces, and cultural communities ensures people are not caught off guard by new requirements.
  • Mutual aid remains a powerful tool, whether through food distribution, transportation support, childcare assistance, or contributions to local emergency or immigration funds.
  • Community organizations – such as legal-aid offices, clinics, food banks, and environmental-justice groups – will see increased need, and volunteering even a small amount of time helps strengthen the safety net that many families rely on.
  • Regularly contacting representatives signals public concern and shapes oversight as agencies implement the law.
  • Individuals can also participate in public comment periods, which influence how federal agencies interpret and finalize rules. Joining or supporting civic groups – unions, PTAs, faith communities, or neighborhood associations – helps build collective capacity to respond. Finally, households potentially affected by benefit changes or rising fees might prepare early by updating documents, reviewing eligibility, and consulting legal-aid resources.

While the law centralizes major decisions at federal and state levels, communities still shape how
its impacts unfold. Staying informed, supporting one another, and engaging consistently in civic
life influences how policies are interpreted, enforced, and reconsidered over time. Because
implementation will stretch across years, steady engagement ensures the lived experiences of
ordinary people guide oversight, future amendments, and the policymaking that follows.

Measles: A Historical and Current Public Health Crisis Amid Policy and Funding Challenges in the U.S.

12/15/2025

Abstract
Measles remains one of the most highly contagious viral diseases affecting populations worldwide. Despite the availability of an effective vaccine, recent policy shifts and substantial federal funding cuts in 2025 have significantly weakened the United States' public health infrastructure, leading to the closure of vaccination clinics, staff layoffs, and declining immunization rates. These developments have contributed to a resurgence of measles cases at levels not seen in decades, threatening progress toward eradication. This article traces the historical development of measles, highlights its clinical features—including its high transmissibility and potential for severe complications—and discusses how recent policy and funding challenges have increased the risk of outbreaks. It underscores the critical importance of maintaining high vaccination coverage and robust public health systems to prevent future transmission and protect vulnerable communities.

Picture
Introduction
Measles is caused by the measles virus, a member of the Morbillivirus genus within the Paramyxoviridae family. Known for its high infectivity, the disease can lead to severe complications, including pneumonia, encephalitis, and death (World Health Organization [WHO], 2023). Historically endemic across the globe, measles was a major cause of childhood morbidity and mortality before the advent of vaccination. Vaccination programs have dramatically reduced its burden; however, persistent gaps in coverage threaten recent gains and pose substantial risks to vulnerable populations.
Historical Background
The earliest recorded descriptions of measles date back to the 9th century by Persian physician Abū Bakr Muhammad Zakariyyā Rāzī, who provided one of the earliest clinical descriptions of the disease (Rāzī, 9th century). The causal relationship between the measles virus and the disease was established in 1757 when Scottish doctor Francis Home demonstrated transmissibility through blood inoculation, establishing infectious causality (Home, 1757).

Outbreaks in isolated populations, such as the Faroe Islands (1846), Hawai`i (1848), and Fiji (1875), demonstrated how the disease could devastate vulnerable communities unexposed to the virus. In 1954, Dr. Thomas Peebles successfully isolated the measles virus during an outbreak at a Boston boarding school, providing the foundation for vaccine development (Peebles et al., 1954). Subsequently, the first licensed measles vaccine was introduced in 1963, based on the Edmonston strain developed by John Franklin Enders and colleagues (Enders et al., 1963). Dr. Maurice Hilleman further improved the vaccine in 1968, reducing side effects and increasing safety (Hilleman, 1968). The addition of the MMR vaccine in 1971, combining measles, mumps, and rubella, significantly expanded global immunization efforts.
Picture
Vaccination Benefits
Global immunization efforts have led to a dramatic decline in measles incidence. According to the WHO (2023), vaccination has prevented over 60 million deaths since 2000. Most countries now recommend two doses of the measles-containing vaccine: the first at 9–12 months, and the second at 15–18 months or later, to ensure full immunity.

In the Americas, successful elimination programs began in 1991, leading to the region being declared free of endemic measles transmission in 2016 (PAHO, 2016). These programs relied on high vaccination coverage, robust surveillance, and rapid responses to imported cases. However, lapses in vaccination coverage due to vaccine hesitancy threaten to undermine these achievements.

Measles and Vaccine Hesitancy:
  • Disease Resurgence: Measles was once nearly eliminated in many regions due to high vaccination coverage. However, vaccine hesitancy has led to declines in immunization rates, resulting in outbreaks. For example, in recent years, outbreaks have occurred in areas with declining vaccination coverage, such as parts of the United States and Europe.
  • High Contagiousness: Measles is one of the most contagious diseases, with a basic reproduction number (R0) of 12-18. This means that in populations with insufficient vaccination coverage, measles can spread rapidly, causing large-scale outbreaks.
  • Impact on Vulnerable Populations: Outbreaks disproportionately affect infants too young to be vaccinated, immunocompromised individuals, and those who refuse vaccination due to hesitancy or misinformation.
  • Threat to Elimination Goals: Countries striving for measles elimination face setbacks when vaccination coverage drops below the herd immunity threshold (about 95%). Hesitancy fueled by misinformation undermines these efforts, risking a re-establishment of endemic transmission.

Misinformation Specific to Measles:
  1. False Safety Claims: Misinformation falsely claims that the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine causes autism, a myth debunked by extensive scientific research. Despite this, the myth persists and influences vaccine decisions.
  2. Conspiracy Theories: Some narratives suggest that health authorities or pharmaceutical companies are hiding vaccine risks or intentionally promoting vaccines for profit, eroding public trust.
  3. Impact of Misinformation: These false claims lead to increased hesitancy, decreasing vaccination rates, and creating conditions ripe for measles outbreaks.

Consequences:
  • Recent measles outbreaks highlight how lapses in vaccination coverage can lead to significant public health crises.
  • Rebuilding trust, countering misinformation, and ensuring high vaccination coverage are critical steps toward controlling and eventually eradicating measles.

Signs and Symptoms of Measles: Contagion, Severity, and PreventionMeasles is one of the most contagious infectious diseases known, with a basic reproductive number (R₀) estimated between 12 and 18. This means that a single infected individual can, on average, infect up to 18 susceptible persons in a completely unvaccinated population (Fine et al., 2011). The virus is transmitted primarily through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. It can also spread via aerosolized particles that remain suspended in the air for up to two hours, facilitating infection in enclosed spaces.

The virus’s ability to infect others even before the appearance of symptoms makes it particularly dangerous. An infected person is contagious from about four days before the rash appears until four days after. This means that individuals may unknowingly spread the virus during the prodromal phase when symptoms are mild or nonspecific, such as cough, runny nose, and conjunctivitis.
Airborne and Surface Transmission:
Measles virus can live for up to two hours in the air in droplets expelled when infected persons cough or sneeze, and on surfaces they touch. This high level of environmental stability contributes to its extreme contagiousness.

Symptoms Include:
  • High fever (up to 40.6°C/105°F)
  • A blotchy red rash that starts on the face and spreads downward
  • Cough
  • Runny nose (coryza)
  • Conjunctivitis (red, watery eyes)
  • Koplik spots (see below): tiny, bluish-white spots with a red background inside the mouth, often on the cheeks, appearing 2–3 days before the rash and signaling early infection

Clinical Course:

The course typically unfolds in three stages:
  • Prodromal phase (2–4 days): Mild symptoms like fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis, and Koplik spots.
  • Rash phase (3–5 days): Rash appears and spreads; high fever persists.
  • Recovery or complications: Fever subsides as rash fades; complications such as pneumonia or encephalitis may develop, especially in unvaccinated or vulnerable children.

Most Children Who Have Not Been Vaccinated - Are at Risk
Recent measles outbreaks across the U.S. and other countries have mainly affected unvaccinated populations, underscoring the importance of vaccination. The MMR vaccine is highly effective in helping children develop strong immunity against measles, and parents are encouraged to speak with their pediatrician about questions or concerns regarding the vaccine.

Recent Federal Actions and the Resurgence of Measles in the U.S.
In 2025, the United States faced a significant setback in its fight against measles due to recent federal government actions by the current administration, including substantial funding cuts and policy shifts. These reductions have profoundly weakened the nation’s public health infrastructure, leading to the cancellation of numerous local vaccination clinics and a sharp decline in vaccination rates across many states.

Key Effects of These Changes Include:
  • Closure of Vaccination Clinics:
Abrupt cuts to federal grants—such as the approximately $11.4 billion in COVID-era funds allocated to state and local health departments—forced the closure of many free or low-cost vaccination clinics in states like Texas, Minnesota, Washington, and Arizona. This has limited access to vaccines, especially for vulnerable and low-income populations who rely on these services.
  • Staff Layoffs and Reduced Capacity:
Funding reductions have led to the elimination of hundreds of jobs at the CDC and thousands more at state and local health departments. These staff members are responsible for immunization programs, disease surveillance, and outbreak response. Their absence hampers the ability of public health officials to monitor, contain, and respond effectively to outbreaks.
  • Weakened Global Health Efforts:
Cuts to U.S. foreign aid, including the termination of funding for WHO’s Global Measles and Rubella Laboratory Network and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, have compromised international measles control efforts. Increased global cases raise the risk of imported cases triggering new outbreaks within under-vaccinated U.S. communities.
  • Erosion of Vaccine Confidence:
Recent policy actions and high-profile misinformation have contributed to a broader decline in trust towards health authorities and vaccines. This has led to increased vaccine skepticism, further lowering routine childhood immunization rates nationwide, with some areas falling below the herd immunity threshold of 95%.
  • Surge in Cases:
As a direct consequence of these factors, the U.S. experienced a dramatic resurgence of measles cases in 2025—the highest levels in decades. Public health experts attribute the surge to the combination of federal funding cuts, diminished local response capacity, and declining vaccination coverage. The United States is experiencing more measles infections than in over 30 years, with outbreaks linked to vaccine hesitancy and declining immunization rates. Most of these cases are among unvaccinated individuals.

Impact on Public Health and Eradication Goals
These developments have created what experts describe as a "perfect storm" that threatens to undo decades of progress. The increased transmission and reduced capacity for outbreak response put the U.S. at risk of losing its official measles elimination status, especially as these trends continue, with children and those who are not vaccinated at severe risk.

Severity and Preventability

The severity of measles varies widely, influenced by age, nutritional status, immune health, and healthcare access. While many children recover without significant issues, the disease can cause serious complications, including:
  • Pneumonia: Responsible for up to 60% of measles-related deaths
  • Encephalitis: Brain swelling leading to permanent neurological damage or death
  • Diarrhea and dehydration
  • Otitis media (ear infections)
  • Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE): A rare, fatal degenerative disease developing years later

Vaccination
—which is about 97% effective after two doses—is the most powerful tool to prevent these outcomes. High coverage (over 95%) creates herd immunity, protecting those who cannot be vaccinated, such as infants under 9 months and immunocompromised children.

The American Academy of Pediatrics emphasizes that vaccination is critical to building the strongest immunity in children and preventing further outbreaks.

Key message for parents:
  • Most recent cases are in unvaccinated children.
  • The MMR vaccine offers safe, effective, and long-lasting protection.
  • Parents are encouraged to consult their pediatrician with questions about the vaccine or measles.

Conclusion
Measles remains highly contagious, capable of spreading rapidly through airborne droplets and contaminated surfaces, often before symptoms appear. Its clinical course can escalate from mild symptoms to life-threatening complications, especially in unvaccinated children. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent infection and severe disease, protect vulnerable populations, and move toward eradication.

However, in the U.S., recent reductions in surveillance and prevention funding have limited efforts to control outbreaks. Many state and local health departments now rely heavily on community clinics and programs—such as the California Department of Public Health’s free immunization services to help children get vaccinated. Find your state or local health department by searching with your zip code at the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).

Organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), other vaccine advocates continue to provide resources and guidance to ensure children are protected. Parents are urged to seek vaccination and utilize available local resources to safeguard their children from measles. Additional vaccine promotion organizations include:

Koplik Spots: An Early Sign of Measles Infection

What Are Koplik Spots?
Koplik spots are tiny, bluish-white or whitish spots with a red background that appear inside the mouth, specifically on the inner cheeks (buccal mucosa). They are a hallmark early sign of measles (rubeola), caused by the highly contagious RNA virus from the paramyxovirus family. These spots typically emerge a couple of days before the characteristic skin rash appears, signaling the onset of the infectious stage.
Picture
Picture
What Do Koplik Spots Indicate?
  • Early Diagnosis of Measles: The presence of Koplik spots is a crucial clinical sign that helps healthcare providers diagnose measles before the rash develops. Recognizing these spots allows for prompt isolation and treatment, reducing transmission risk.
  • High Contagiousness: Koplik spots indicate that the infected individual is highly contagious, especially through coughing and sneezing, and can spread the virus to others during this early phase.
Key Characteristics
  • Appearance: Small, bluish-white or whitish specks, often described as looking like grains of salt or sand, set against a bright red background.
  • Location: Inside the cheeks, opposite the molars (buccal mucosa), and sometimes present on the roof of the mouth (palate).
  • Timing: Usually appears about 2–3 days after initial symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, and conjunctivitis, and typically disappears as the skin rash begins to develop.

This Thanksgiving, Resist Black Friday Deals and Stand Up for Human Rights, Dignity, and Justice

11/25/2025

Picture
As families across the country prepare to celebrate and give thanks, a different kind of movement is gaining momentum—one that challenges us to reflect on the corporate support fueling systemic abuses in our immigration system. While holiday shopping and Black Friday deals dominate headlines, many of the biggest companies backing these sales are also contributing to a system that inflicts trauma, suffering, and human rights violations on vulnerable populations.

The Hidden Crisis of Immigration Detention
The Trump administration has transformed the immigration enforcement landscape, replacing justice and compassion with fear, trauma, and inhumane treatment. Currently, approximately 50,000 people are detained by ICE at any given time, with over 3 million individuals booked into detention centers over the past decade. Americans are Under Attack! The government is seeking an extra $45 billion to expand these detention efforts further, aiming to deport one million people annually. This relentless push has created a detention system marked by overcrowding, neglect, and abuse.
Detainees are kept in deplorable conditions—filthy, overcrowded facilities with insufficient access to basic necessities. They face severe shortages of food and clean water, and many are kept in cold, uncomfortable cells known as “hieleras,” which are so frigid they cause illness and suffering. Medical neglect is widespread; individuals suffer from untreated illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, with delays or outright denial of essential healthcare. Vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, children, and people with disabilities, are often mistreated—denied prenatal care, proper nutrition, or necessary accommodations like sign language interpreters and wheelchairs. Reports confirm that many detainees experience injuries, deteriorating health, and even death—2025 alone has seen at least 25 official reports of deaths in custody, with the actual toll likely higher. The year is shaping up as the deadliest in over two decades for those held in ICE detention.

Numerous investigations and reports have documented systemic failures—detainees regularly face hunger, dehydration, unsafe living conditions, and abusive treatment from staff. Hunger strikes and protests have become common, as detainees demand humane treatment; unfortunately, these acts often lead to retaliation, including transfers and threats. The conditions are so egregious that experts warn this system is causing long-lasting trauma, especially for children and families—trauma that can permanently alter mental health and brain development.

Corporate Support Fosters and Funds This System
Incredibly, some of the world’s biggest corporations have contributed financially to the Trump administration’s policies through donations to the inaugural fund and the White House’s ballroom project. Tech giants like Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook’s parent company Meta, Nvidia, and OpenAI have all donated, with some pledging millions. Many of these companies also benefit from government contracts—OpenAI, for instance, has received defense work, and Palantir has secured federal surveillance contracts—further entrenching their ties to the system.

Other industries, including energy, oil, and defense, such as Chevron, ExxonMobil, Lockheed Martin, and Occidental Petroleum, have contributed significant funds. Major retailers like Target, Walmart, and Home Depot are also complicit, either through direct donations or by enabling policies that support the detention and deportation machine. These corporations profit from the status quo, even as it results in suffering and injustice.
What You Can Do: Be a Voice for Justice
This holiday season, we can choose to stand against these injustices. Here’s how you can help:
  • Black Out Major Retailers: During this week’s shopping period, avoid buying from Target, Amazon, and Home Depot. Instead, use this time to connect with loved ones, reflect on what truly matters, and support local businesses that uphold human rights.
  • Redirect Your Spending: Shift your consumer power toward small, community-based, or ethical businesses that respect human dignity and refuse to support policies of detention and deportation.
  • Make a Personal Commitment: Pledge to be a conscious consumer—question where your money goes and whom it supports, and choose companies aligned with justice and fairness.
  • Spread Awareness: Share this message with friends and family, on social media, and within your community. Raising awareness is crucial in building a movement for change.

Join the Fight for Humanity
By choosing not to support corporations that enable systemic abuse, we send a clear message: human rights, dignity, and justice are non-negotiable. This Thanksgiving, let’s prioritize compassion over profit. Let’s stand together for the rights of every person—regardless of immigration status—and demand a future rooted in fairness, respect, and humanity.

New Report Highlights Lessons from the Epstein Case on Power, Survivors, and the Fight for Justice

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Report Highlights Lessons from the Epstein Case on Power, Survivors, and the Fight for Justice
San Diego — November 12, 2025 — A new in-depth report titled "What the Epstein Case Teaches Us About Power, Survivors, and Accountability" examines the ongoing implications of Jeffrey Epstein’s scandal, revealing critical insights into systemic failures, the importance of transparency, and the urgent need for justice for survivors of sexual abuse.

Despite Epstein’s death in 2019, the fight for truth and accountability continues in 2025. The report underscores how privilege, secrecy, and influence have historically protected powerful offenders while silencing victims. It details the unresolved questions surrounding Epstein’s covert dealings, the delayed release of files, and the broader societal failure to hold perpetrators accountable.

“This case is a stark reminder of how systemic power can distort justice and how institutional betrayal compounds trauma for survivors,” said The CIRCLE, the report’s author. “It also highlights the critical need for transparency and legislative action to prevent future abuses of power.”

The report explores key issues including the 2008 non-prosecution agreement, the ongoing fight to unseal Epstein’s files, and the consequences of delayed justice. It emphasizes that the Epstein case is not isolated but a “stress test” for how society responds to sexual violence involving the powerful.

What You Can Do:

The report concludes with actionable steps, urging the public to support legislative efforts like the Epstein Files Transparency Act and to back survivor-centered organizations advocating for justice and healing.

Honoring Veterans on November 11, 2025: A Call to Protect Our Future

11/11/2025

Picture
Today, November 11th, is Veterans Day, a federal holiday in the United States (U.S.) dedicated to honoring and recognizing the service of military veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. Established to commemorate the armistice that ended World War I on November 11, 1918, Veterans Day pays tribute to all men and women who have served in the U.S. military. It is a day marked by ceremonies, parades, and reflections to express gratitude for the sacrifices made by veterans to protect the nation's freedoms and values.

Currently, the United States faces a challenging and uncertain future. The country’s condition has changed dramatically from what it was before 2025. Historically, American citizens, visitors, and the general public benefited from government protections guaranteed by federal agencies—covering fundamental human rights, dignity, mental health, healthcare, medication, disease prevention, research, financial stability, food and water safety, air quality, and more. These protections made the U.S. a model nation, built over centuries with the dedicated efforts of those who served and worked to uphold these values.
Picture
However, in 2025, with a new administration, many of these protections and federal agencies have been dismantled or are no longer active. It remains uncertain whether they will be restored. Despite having a proud history of 250 years, we now face the urgent need to take action to preserve and rebuild what was lost—restoring our country’s protections, freedoms, and core values.
Today, as we honor our military veterans, let us also remember what they have protected. And let us commit to Take Action by contacting our congressional representatives to advocate for the return of these essential protections and ensure that the U.S. military is never used against its own people on American soil.
